Abstract
The impact of artificial intelligence on teaching and learning and the views of educators and policymakers about it have received increasing attention. However, its application in higher education and students' views on this matter have not been examined. The aim of the present study is to investigate students' views on the role of artificial intelligence in the future developments of higher education. To this end, this study was conducted based on a qualitative phenomenological method, using a semi-structured interview tool with the presence of 13 postgraduate students of Islamic Azad University, Tabriz Branch. The data were analyzed using MAXQDA software and thematic content analysis method. Finally, 58 initial codes, 10 categories, and three key themes of learning outcomes, teaching, and evaluation were obtained. The findings show that students have a good understanding of the role of artificial intelligence in education and the changes and developments resulting from it in future academic processes. In their opinion, universities should prepare themselves for the transition to the new era of education, in which artificial intelligence will be an integral part, and update their teaching and evaluation methods.
